About Culebra and Places to Visit

Culebra Island, known as “Snake Island” in Spanish, is located in the east of Puerto Rico, near the island of Vieques and is part of the so-called Spanish Virgin Islands. The island of Culebra is small – its size is only 11 by 6 kilometers, but it dominates the whole archipelago of 24 small islands that surround it like a necklace. Culebra is home to only 2 thousand inhabitants, there are no nightclubs or resorts here, and its main city – Dewey – is a small quiet settlement.

The island is home to the Proyecto Tinglado Nature Reserve, one of the few places in the world where the population of the leatherback turtle is increasing. Playa Flamenco is the most popular beach on the island, there is soft warm white sand, many palm trees in the shade of which you can shelter from the scorching sun and clear water, which makes this beach a good place for family holidays.
